Meet Calvin Tabata
Calvin Tabata, 8th Dan in Ki Aikido, Okuden Ki rank, and founder of the Personal Kiatsu School, began his training with Master Koichi Tohei at age 3. He is Chief Instructor of the Northwest Ki Federation and Senior Advisor Representing World Headquarters to the United Kingdom Ki Federation.
Calvin Tabata retired from his business career as a Senior Vice-President for Bank of the West in 2015.
He started the Oregon Ki Society while a student at Lewis and Clark College in 1974. Master Tohei lived with Calvin Tabata’s family for the first year that he taught Aikido outside of Japan. Calvin has been practicing and teaching the universal principles taught by Master Koichi Tohei from an early age. He learned Kiatsu while he lived and traveled with Master Tohei as a young man, and taught in the first Kiatsu School in Japan. He founded the Personal Kiatsu School in Oregon with Master Koichi Tohei’s permission in 1993.
He was asked to speak on behalf of the American Continents at the Grand Opening of the World Headquarters Dojo in Japan in 1990. Since Master Tohei Sensei’s passing, he has actively supported and advised Shinichi Tohei Sensei in sustaining and promoting training.
Since retirement from the business world, he has volunteered full-time teaching and promoting training in Ki-Aikido, Ki Training (Unification of Mind, Body, and Spirit), and Kiatsu world-wide.
